Newberry’s Hammond, Huckestein Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Newberry College second baseman Kat Hammond (Irmo, S.C.) and pitcher Amanda Huckestein (Port Charlotte, Fla.) have been named South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Hammond led Newberry to a 6-0 week, while batting .571 with 12 hits in 21 at-bats. The senior belted three home runs, a pair of doubles, and a triple as her team swept three doubleheaders. In all, she finished with 13 RBIs and five runs scored.
In a 9-2 win against Coker College, Hammond went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.

Huckestein went 3-0 on the week for Newberry pitching three complete games, including a shutout victory over North Greenville. The Port Charlotte, Fla. native pitched 22 innin! ! gs and allowed only two earned runs, while striking out 20.
In her complete-game win over Coker, she fanned nine. She is now 5-0 on the year with a 0.73 ERA. This is the second straight Pitcher of the Week award for Huckestein.
Newberry is off to the best start in the program's history at 10-0.
