Carson-Newman’s Mary Shealy, Wingate’s Allison Smith Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Carson-Newman College's Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) and Wingate University's Allison Smith (Daleville, Va.) have been named the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced today.
Shealy, a designated hitter, made the most of her Lady Eagle debut, belting a pair of home runs in a C-N sweep of Bluefield State (W.Va.) on Saturday. The true freshman finished the day 5-for-8 from the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored. The Clinton, S.C. native also pitched a two-hit shutout in C-N's 14-0 win in the first game of the afternoon.

Smith picked up a pair of wins on the week, leading the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start. The sophomore has yet to allow an earned run in 10 innings of work, while striking out 11 batters and scattering five hits.
The Daleville, Va. native tossed a complete-game shutout at Coker College, striking out nine, as Wingate beat the preseason pick to win the Conference Carolinas, 6-0. She also pitched the Bulldogs by St. Andrews, working three innings in a 21-3 win.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
