CLINTON, S.C. - After a nationwide search for the right individual to fill the vacated position, Memphis assistant softball coach Dave Majeski has been named the head softball coach at Presbyterian College by PC Director of Athletics Dr. William "Bee" Carlton. Majeski replaces Jeff Nickerson, who left after three seasons at the helm of the PC softball program to pursue other interests.
Majeski comes to Presbyterian after a one-year stint at Memphis
where he helped the Tigers to a 28-26 record in their inaugural
campaign.
Prior to his time with Memphis, Majeski spent three years as an assistant softball coach at his alma mater, the University of Florida. Majeski, who began his time with Florida as a volunteer assistant in 2001 before being promoted to a full-time position shortly thereafter, was responsible for instructing the Gators in hitting and fielding, while also serving as the recruiting coordinator.
"I am so pleased to add someone with Coach Majeski's background and experience to the athletic department," remarked Carlton. "He will add a tremendous amount of knowledge and energy to both the PC softball team and to our staff. Additionally, Coach Majeksi and his family will be great additions to the campus and the Clinton community.
"Coach Majeski's ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes along with his experience at two of the finest schools in the south will allow the softball team to improve in many dimensions. I am confident that our team will respond very favorably to his enthusiasm and upbeat coaching style."
Majeski is excited about the opportunity and is looking forward to what lies ahead for him and his family.
"I am honored to be the next head softball coach at Presbyterian College," mused Majeski. "My wife, family and I are extremely excited to become part of the Blue Hose community. I look forward to the challenge of taking the team to Division I and competing at the highest levels. The school, the community and the people are what attracted me, and I can't wait to be a part of something so special."
A Gator baseball alum, Majeski concluded his illustrious career with Florida owning a .322 career batting average and still commandeering a spot in the top 10 in five Gator career offensive categories. Majeski also sits second all-time in Florida baseball annals in games played with 242.
Majeski played in the outfield for Florida from 1989-92 and was a member of the 1991 Florida team that placed third in the College World Series and claimed the Southeastern Conference tournament crown.
An All-SEC performer during his senior year, Majeski was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers after his senior year, marking the second time that he had been tabbed in the Major League Baseball Entry Draft as he was selected in the 34th round by the Indians after his junior campaign.
The 1994 graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in exercise and sports science began his coaching career as the head baseball coach at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Fla., coaching for three years (1995-98) before moving on to become the head man at Santa Fe High School in Alachua, Fla.
During his four years (1998-2001) with Santa Fe, Majeski led the squad to four consecutive district championships and was the Gainseville Sun's Coach-of-the-Year in 1998.
The Plantsville, Conn. native along with his wife Deanna have twin daughters, Meghan and Hope.
