Wingate’s Chester, Green Named Softball Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate swept the inaugural weekly South Atlantic Conference softball awards it was announced by the league office on Monday. Wingate's Mandi Chester was named the league's Player of the Week, while teammate Ashley Green was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week.

A senior catcher, Chester has helped the Bulldogs off to a perfect 6-0 record to start the 2007 campaign. The Charlotte, N.C. native hit .471 in Wingate's first six games, tallying five extra-base hits, including three home runs.

Chester also picked up 12 RBIs in the six games.

Green played just as a big a part in the Bulldogs start, ending last week with a 4-0 record. The 2006 Food Lion SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player currently owns a scant 1.91 ERA.

The Charleston, S.C. native has 25 strikeouts this season in 25.2 innings pitched.

The South Atlantic Conference players of the week are determined by the vote of the conference's Sports Information Directors.
