Wingate’s Sean Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Sean Barnette was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Barnette, a senior guard from Rock Hill, S.C., wins the award for the second straight week as he averaged 23.7 points, 12.7 rebounds and four assists in leading Wingate to two wins in three contests.
The Northwestern High School graduate had a double-double in every game last week. He started things off with 27 points and 14 rebounds in Wingate's 96-80 victory over Queens on Monday at home.
Against league-foe Newberry Wednesday, Barnette tallied 25
points and 14 rebounds as the host Bulldogs downed the Indians,
86-83, before finishing the week with 19 points and 10 rebounds in
a 92-73 setback on the road to defending national champion Barton
Saturday in Wilson, N.C.
Barnette, the reigning SAC Player of the Year and a third-team All-American, currently averages 22.2 points and 8.9 rebounds for the Bulldogs and is the league's top scorer.
The South Atlantic Conference Basketball Players Of The Week are voted on by the league's eight sports information directors.
