Limestone Captures 2024 SAC Field Hockey Title

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Limestone Saints took the Mount Olive Trojans to penalty strokes to capture the 2024 SAC Field Hockey Championship and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Four quarters and two overtime periods were not enough to decide the champion as it came down to the final penalty stroke. Mount Olive's first penalty stroke by Orla Folan was saved with the rebound going wide right. Limestone's Felicitas Herrero found the back of the cage on the Saint's first attempt. To take the 1-0 advantage.

The Trojan's Amber Dercksen took a shot wide right, and Limestone's Victoria Gonzalez-Lo secured the second goal for the Saints. After misses by UMO's Femke van Marle and Limestone's Zoe Bergmann, Mount Olive found the back of the cage on Nakai Mujaranji's penalty stroke to bring the shootout to 2-1 with one shot left. Limestone's Katie Dettore missed her shot, and Mount Olive's last shooter Rosie Migounoff ran out of time giving the crown to Limestone.

Mount Olive Goalie Alanna Barrett finished the game with seven saves as Limestone's goalie Tereza Koprivova had five on her way to becoming tournament MVP.

Limestone finishes the season at 14-5 while Mount Olive finishes at 11-8.
