Harrogate, TN - In its first game since Sep. 21, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back at home on Tuesday playing host to in-conference opponent Limestone. It was the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Saints came into the game with a 4-3 record, with a 3-3 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters were 0-4 overall with an 0-4 mark in conference play with three of their four losses coming by a single goal. Limestone had never lost to Lincoln Memorial, claiming all four of the previous match ups by a combined score of 20-0 with the closest game being a 3-0 Saints victory in October of 2022.
Tuesday's game was a defensive battle throughout the first half with neither side yielding a single goal. However, Limestone worked its way onto the board in the second half as Zoe Bergmann tallied the game's first goal in the 38th minute giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Railsplitters' defense continued to battle, but the Saints were able to capitalize in the offensive zone in the 49th minute when Felicitas Herrero netted the second goal of the game, bringing the score to its final, 2-0, in favor of Limestone. The Saints fired 12 shots on goal with Ana Carney saving nine and allowing two. Guadalupe Montaldo also tallied a defensive save and nearly saved the goal-shot taken by Herrero late in the game on a diving effort. The Railsplitters only managed two shots on goal with Saints' goalkeeper Taylor Rawlings stopping both attempts.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 0-5 on the season with an 0-5 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters will be back in action on Oct. 12 on the road at Wingate.
