Mount Olive, NC - Following a 10-day rest between games, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back on the road on Saturday, taking on the seventh-ranked Mount Olive Trojans for the second consecutive time. The Trojans took a narrow 1-0 victory in Harrogate on September 11. It was the closest game in the series' history. It was also the least amount of goals allowed by the Railsplitters against the Trojans in the series.
From the beginning of the season, it has been evident that the field hockey team continues to develop and get better each week. That assertion is reaffirmed by the box scores and eye test for the team against quality opposition this year. With only one win in program history, Lincoln Memorial has never been selected above second-to-last in preseason conference field hockey polls, but the Railsplitters continue to push the top teams in the conference in every outing of the 2024 campaign.
Saturday's game started with Mount Olive taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game. The score sat at 1-0 until the Trojans added their second goal with only five minutes left in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at the half. Lincoln Memorial came out swinging in the second half, cutting the Mount Olive lead to 2-1 just three minutes into the second half. However, with the clock working against them, the Railsplitters were unable to add another goal in the final frame, seeing the Trojans take a narrow 2-1 victory at home.
Lincoln Memorial will remain on the road for one more game, traveling to Coker Friday September 27 to take on the Cobras in conference action with kick-off slated for 6:00 PM.
