The South Atlantic Conference Announces Field Hockey Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Field Hockey Players of the Week for matches played during the twelfth week of the 2022 season. Converse forward Lotte Kanters was named the offensive player of the week, while Mount Olive defender Annefleur Moerkerken was named defensive player of the week.
Kanters, a sophomore from Loosdrecht, Netherlands, scored four goals and had two assists for a 10-point week. She scored on a penalty stroke with four minutes remaining in the second period to apply pressure to No. 2 Shippensburg, the defending National Champions. On Saturday, she recorded her fourth hat trick of the season after she scored three goals against Lincoln Memorial to contribute to the Valkyries' record-setting 12-0 win. With 27 goals on the year, she leads the NCAA DII Field Hockey rankings in goals per game (1.59) and points per game (3.65).
Moerkerken, a sophomore from Driebergen, Netherlands, registered an assist and aided the Mount Olive defensive to a 7-0 shutout win over Coker on Saturday. She shut down multiple attacking opportunities and delivered a through ball to teammate Nikki Bos in the 11th minute to increase the Trojans' lead. Her efforts helped Mount Olive finish the regular season undefeated in conference play and earn their first ever Piedmont Division regular season title.
