The South Atlantic Conference Announces Field Hockey Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Field Hockey Players of the Week for matches played during the sixth week of the 2022 season. Lander forward Sophie Schmitz was named the offensive player of the week, while Mount Olive goalie Alanna Barrett was named defensive player of the week.
Schmitz, a freshman from Utrecht, Netherlands, led the Bearcats to a 1-1 record last week with a 7-0 win over Lincoln Memorial. She scored four goals for eight points in the win over the Railsplitters. The hat trick was the first in program history and it helped the Bearcats win their first home game in program history.
Barrett, a sophomore from Culpeper, Va., led the Trojans to a pair of SAC wins over Lander (4-2) and Belmont Abbey (2-1). She made three saves and allowed two goals in the win over Lander. She then made four saves and allowed just one goal in the win over Belmont Abbey. For the week she had seven saves with a 1.50 goals against average.
