SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries came away with a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Limestone Saints to win the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship final this afternoon. With the win, the Valkyries claim their first ever conference title.
Despite a hard-fought back-and-forth battle and a scoreless first three quarters, the Valkyries outshot the Saints 15 to 3, with Limestone finding themselves unsuccessful when it came to putting the ball in the back of the cage during the 60 minutes of play.
Luisa Fasold led the Valkyries to victory by scoring the game winning goal with only 17 seconds left to go in the fourth. Additionally, the Converse Valkyries earned nine penalty corners to Limestone's four.
In goal for Converse was Defensive Player of the Year Ciriaca Petitto, who completed the game with three saves, while Tereza Koprivova of the Saints totaled 12.
Converses' Luisa Fasold was named MVP of the tournament after scoring the only goal during the tournament.
