South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Announces 2021 Field Hockey All-Conference Teams and Major Award Winners
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announces its annual field hockey awards on Wednesday (Nov. 3). Converse swept this year's awards with Mira Polzer earning Offensive Player of the Year, Ciriaca Petitto garnering Defensive Player of the Year, Lotte Kanters taking Freshman of the Year, and head coach Valerie Clarke earning the 2021 Coach of the Year award.
Polzer, a sophomore forward from Munich, Germany is first in the conference in assists (17), second in points (29), and third in shots on goal (51). This is Polzer's first major award, besides being named to last spring's first team all-conference.
Petitto, a graduate student from York Town Va., is eighth in the league with saves (23), is fourth in save percentage (.767) and is first in goals against and in goals against average. She has allowed only seven goals against her the entire season. Petitto earned South Atlantic Conference Carolinas AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week honors three times during the 2021 season.
Kanters, a freshman forward from Loosdrecht, Netherlands, was an asset to this year's team with goals (8), assists (3), and points (19), she is also first in Game-Winning goals (4). Kanters was awarded South Atlantic Conference Carolinas AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week honors once during the 2021 season.
Clarke led the Valkyries to a 8-4 conference record and a 10-6 record overall this fall. Her team ranks second in the league in goals with 37 and first in assists with 35. Clarke had three players earn AstroTurf Player of the Week honors this season.
