South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Announces 2021 Field Hockey Preseason Poll and All-Conference Team
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Limestone and Queens are slated to be the top teams in the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll, as voted upon by the league's eight head coaches.
The Saints earned four first-place votes and 50 total points, While the Royals earned three first-place votes and 50 points. The Limestone Saints wrapped the spring season with an overall record of 5-2 and a conference record of 5-1. The Queens Royals fell to the Coker Cobras in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Spring Tournament title game 1-2 but ended with an overall record of 6-3 and a 4-2 record in conference play.
The 202-21 Saints also featured three major South Atlantic Conference Carolinas awards, with Jessica Mulhern winning Coach of the Year, Tereza Koprivova winning Defensive Player of the Year and Kelly Diplock taking Offensive Player of the Year.
The reigning South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Spring Tournament Champions the Coker Cobras captured the No. 3 spot with one first-place vote and 45 points in the poll. They Finished the 2021 spring season with a 6-2 overall record and going 3-2 in conference play.
Newberry earned the No. 4 spot with 42 points in their corner. The Wolves wrapped up the 2021 spring season with an overall record of 5-3 and went 4-2 in conference play. Then freshman Lily Drury was also named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.
Converse took the No. 5 spot in the poll with 30 votes to their credit. The Valkyries finished the 2021 spring season with a record of 2-5 overall, going 2-4 in conference action.
Belmont Abbey followed closely behind in the No. 6 spot with 29 points. The Crusaders completed their season with a record of 2-4 overall and 2-3 in conference. Mount Olive took home the No. 7 spot in the poll with 20 points. The Trojans went 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Rounding out the poll in its first year as program is Lincoln Memorial with 14 points.
In addition to the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll, the 2021 Preseason All-Conference teams were also announced. Voted on by the league's media relations directors, the preseason all-conference teams featured four players from Limestone, three players from Queens, two players from Newberry and Coker and one player each from Belmont Abbey and Converse.
The 2021 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas season is set to begin Friday September 3, 2021.
