CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker Cobras came away with a hard-fought overtime 2-1 victory over the Queens Royals to win the 2021 Spring South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship final this afternoon. With the win, the Cobras claim their first ever conference title.
Despite outshooting the Cobras by one today, the Royals found themselves unsuccessful when it came to putting the ball in the back of the cage during overtime play. Coker finished play with six shots on goal while Queens ended with four. Britt Kabo led the Cobras to victory scoring both of their goals and Jill Sherman scored Queens one lone goal 17 minutes into the game. Additionally, the Royals earned seven penalty corners to Coker's six.
With the score sitting tied at 1-1 coming out of the halftime break, neither team could find the back of the net as regulation time came to an end. Coker's Britt Kabo scored todays overtime game-winner in the 66th minute of play. In goal for Coker was Kelsey Gibbons who completed the game with three saves, while Thompson of the Royals totaled four.
Coker's Kabo was named MVP of the tournament after scoring both goals with two shots on goal during the tournament.
