Queens Sweeps South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey Player of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announced the AstroTurf Field Hockey Players of the Week for week three of the 2019 season. Queens' Hanna Nechay was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Avian Thompson was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Nechay, a senior forward from Hebron, Md., scored three goals and added an assist for seven points on the week. As a team, Royals went 2-0, including a 5-4 win over nationally ranked No. 10 Limestone. Nechay scored a pair of goals in a 7-1 win over Mount Olive, and added a goal and an assist in the Royals' win over Limestone. Queens has extended its winning streak to three games, and the win over Limestone was the first in program history versus a ranked opponent. This is Nechay's first offensive player of the week honor of the season.
Thompson, a sophomore goalkeeper from Hummelstown, Pa., led the Royals to a 2-0 record last week, including the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent, a 5-4 win over No. 10 Limestone. She made six saves over the two games, allowing four goals with a .600 save percentage. This is the second defensive player of the week accolade for Thompson this season.
