South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Announces Field Hockey Annual Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – South Atlantic Conference Carolinas announces its inaugural field hockey annual awards on Thursday, Nov. 15. Limestone's Kelly Diplock earned Offensive Player of the Year, Newberry's Allison Davis garnered Defensive Player of the Year, Queens's Karla Von ehren was Freshman of the Year, and Coker's Kat Heterbring collects the Coach of the Year honor.
Diplock, a sophomore forward from Harare, Zimbabwe, leads the conference in goals (16), assists (10), points (42), and game-winning goals (7). She has started every game for the Saints and is a driving force behind their 12-4 (9-1) record. Diplock also garned South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week during the season.
Davis, a senior goalkeeper, started in 15 games for the Wolves, playing over 1,100 minutes, leading the conference. The Greensboro, N.C. native allowed less than two goals a game and collected a conference-high 97 saves, for a conference-leading save percentage of .752. She also led the conference with four shutouts. Davis also earned South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week in 2018.
Von ehren, a freshman forward, has had an outstanding first season with the Royals, starting in 13 of her 15 games. The Hamburg, Germany, native has scored six goals, including two conference game-winners, and dishing out three assists. She was a two-time Offensive Player of the Week for South Atlantic Conference Carolinas.
After Coker's 40-year hiatus, Heterbring revived the field hockey program and led the Cobras to a conference tournament bid in its first season. Earning a 6-6 (5-5) record, the Cobras knocked off No. 10 Limestone 1-0 in Gaffney to give the Saints their only conference loss of the season. Coker leads the league in penalty strokes, going 3-for-3, and are third in shot percentage and shots on goal percentage.
