Bobcats' buzzer-beater sinks Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's basketball team (2-8) was defeated in the final moments of play versus Lees-McRae (5-8) by a score of 69-67 Monday evening.
With less than five seconds to play, Jaylin Stewart hit a pull-up jumper to put the Bobcats up by two in the final moments.
Lees-McRae shot 45 percent from the floor in the second to the Lions' 22 percent. Stewart and Justin Nichelson led the offensive charge for the Bobcats in their comeback.
The Lions led Lees-McRae 35-30 after 20 minutes of play. Mars Hill shot 42 percent from the floor to the Bobcats' 38 in the first half of play. Mars Hill led by as many as nine in the half with less than three minutes remaining.
Conner led all players with nine points and 13 rebounds. Davis followed with eight points. Nichelson led Lees-McRae with nine points while Jeremy Golson led the team with three rebounds.
Nichelson led the Bobcats with 20 points, adding a team-high five rebounds. Stewart ended the night with 15 points, going 7-of-11 from the floor.
Conner had a monstrous game for Mars Hill, scoring 20 points and pulling down a game-high and career-high 21 rebounds. Davis added 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, December 31 when they host North Greenville inside Meares Stadium. The New Year's Eve tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
