Men's Soccer Ends Regular Season With 4-2 Win Over Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a 4-2 victory on the road against the Newberry Wolves.

The Trojans got on the board in the 35th minute with a penalty kick by Martin Carpena, as Anderson went into halftime tied 1-1. Early in the second half, Tevin Lessey found the lower corner of the net to give the Trojans the lead back 2-1. In the 60th minute, Harry Ward was able to set up Alexandre Cox-Ashwood up for his second goal of the season. The fourth and final goal of the night for the Trojans came in the 78th minute as Anderson was able to capitalize on an own goal by Newberry, as they went on to win 4-2.

Anderson did a great job executing in the attacking third, outshooting the Wolves 11 to six on the night. Defensively, Neko Crist earned his third victory of the season after relieving Gal Elyashiv to begin the second half.

"Our team showed a lot of resilience tonight," said coach Michael Zion. "We were able to respond and make the necessary adjustments. The team is excited to get the South Atlantic Conference tournament started on Monday!"

The Trojans end the regular season with a 4-1 record in their pod, finishing with 12 points overall. Anderson will enter the SAC tournament as the number three seed will host Mars Hill on Monday (Apr. 5) at 7:00 with live coverage available at www.autrojans.com.
