Baseball Splits Doubleheader at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Catawba and Lincoln Memorial split a baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Hennon Field. The Catawba Indians claimed the opener 3-2 in 11 innings, while the Railsplitters took game two, 9-2. Catawba moves 10-7 overall and 4-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. LMU stands at 11-3 and 1-1.

 

Drew Robertson doubled home the game-winning run in the opener for Catawba. Levi Perrell had doubled with one out in the 11th and Robertson followed with his double. Joseph Webb, who had relieved Catawba starter Austin Fine to start the 10th, struck out the side in the bottom of the 11th to grab the win.

 

Catawba scored in the opening inning on a double by Carson Yates. LMU tied the contest on a home run by Kasten Harvey in the fourth. The Indians regained the lead in the seventh as Zeb Burns singled with two outs and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. The Railsplitters forced the extra frames on a sacrifice fly by Cameron Powser in the ninth.

 

Fine allowed just six hits, walked two and fanned seven over his nine innings. Webb (2-0) did not allow a baserunner during his two frames. Dylan Driver collected three hits with Perrell and Cameron Mills each rapping out a pair of hits.

 

David Brian Ellison (1-1) took the loss in relief for LMU. Patrick Queener started for the Railsplitters and fanned 13 over seven and a third innings. Collin Goda was the only LMU player with two hits.

 

LMU rallied behind a seven-run fifth to gain the doubleheader split. Harvey singled home two runs to tie the contest and three more runs scored on a pair of passed balls and an error. Andrew Keene singled home two runs to close out the frame. Carson Boles had three hits for LMU in the nightcap and Ethan Bobo (2-0) grabbed the win.

 

Catawba had led 2-0 after a two-run double by Robertson in the second. Brandon Rodgers pitched into the fourth for the Indians, leaving with a pair of runners on base. He did not allow a run off three hits with four walks. Only four of the nine runs Catawba allowed were earned.

 

The teams will complete the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
