Lions fall to Queens

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (2-5-1, 0-3 SAC) was defeated 6-1 by Queens (5-2-0, 3-0 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Queens jumped out to a quick start as Sophia Muetterties scored her first of the game just 35 seconds into the contest. Alyssa Edwards put the Royals up by two in the 24th minute with her first of the season.
Sanne Martinsen scored the lone Lion tally on the day in the 34th minute, her third in the past two games. Martinsen had another opportunity late in the half, but a save by Erica Turner prevented the Lions from tying the game at two.
The Royals dominated the second half, outshooting the Lions 14-0 and scoring four goals. Muetterties struck twice, completing her hat-trick. Emma Rose Stockton and Maddy Leon also netted goals. Daniela Calm collected two assists in the half.
Muetterties led all players with six shot attempts with five on goal. Martinsen led the Lions with three attempts and two on goal.
Turner picked up her fifth win of the season while Camryn Miller made nine saves in the loss.
The Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 29 when they take on Lincoln Memorial. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
