Mars Hill opens SAC play versus Limestone

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-1, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by Limestone (1-0, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 21-5 Saturday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
The Saints opened on a 5-0 run in the first quarter, but the Lions netted two goals in the final 1:21 to cut the deficit to three. Both Trevor Kennedy and Zac Carrigan recorded a goal and an assist.
Limestone used an 8-1 second frame to enter the half up by 10, 13-3. Jason Madden and Owen Consoletti netted two goals apiece while Ethan Stannard recorded one goal and one assist.
Carrying the momentum into the second half, Limestone outscored the Lions 8-2 in the final 30 minutes of play. Carrigan added his second goal of the day in the third frame, assisted by Braden Hoskyn. Jackson Courson recorded the Lions' final goal of the day, with 11 seconds left to play in the third.
Frank Smith led all players with seven points (3g, 4a) followed by Consoletti's six (3g, 3a). Carrigan led the Lions with three points (2g, 1a) on the day.
William Baxter came away with the win, making seven saves on the day. Steven Smith suffered the loss, making nine saves on 28 shots.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 20 when they face Shorter on the road. Faceoff is set for 5 p.m.
