MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (3-2-2, 3-2-1 SAC) was felled 3-0 by Carson-Newman (6-1-1, 5-1 SAC) Thursday night.
After a scoreless first half, the Lions were on the prowl to open the second. Fabio Berrer, inside the box, rang a shot off the crossbar, narrowly missing a chance to put the Lions up 1-0.
In the 55th minute, the Eagles netted their first goal of the night. Nic Carsh tucked a shot inside the far post for his third of the season. Just over 30 seconds later, Thaylan Silva doubled the lead, taking a Theo Hardenby Ohrwall pass and putting it by Brennan Whalen for his third of the campaign.
Carsh netted his second of the game in 78th minute, blasting a shot inside the far elbow to put the Eagles up 3-0.
Silva and Harry Whitehead led all players with six shot attempts. Thomas Bertelsen recorded three attempts for the Lions followed by Ollie Baggett's two.
Bram Kaarsgaren made three saves for the shutout. Whalen was credited with the loss, allowing two goals in 75:17 of action, making four saves.
Prior to the contest, seniors Tristan Murphy, Jayson Moorman, and Matthew Melendez were recognized for their time with the program.
The Lions placed second in Pod 3, recording 10 points. Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Monday, April 5 when they open up the SAC Men's Soccer Spring Championships in quarterfinal play.
