Lions split Saturday DH versus Catawba
The Mars Hill baseball team (15-24, 9-11 SAC) split with Catawba (24-16, 13-5 SAC), dropping game one 8-7 in 12 innings, but responding with a 2-1 win in game two.

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (15-24, 9-11 SAC) split with Catawba (24-16, 13-5 SAC), dropping game one 8-7 in 12 innings, but responding with a 2-1 win in game two.
GAME ONE: CAT 8, MHU 7 (12 Innings)
Catawba scored five unanswered runs to take game one on Saturday, earning the series win. Following a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, Catawba tied the game in the eighth with a bases loaded walk that plated Harris Jackson. In the bottom of the 12th, Cameron Mills' RBI single plated Jackson Finger for the game-winning run.
The Lions trailed 2-0 until the top of the fourth where the offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by Trey Putnam's two-run single to right field. Jordan Lathe, Chapel Matson, and Tyler Lala each recorded RBI singles in the frame.
Alex Naran led all players with four hits in the game while Jackson and Henderson Lentz led Catawba with three hits apiece. Adam Dossenback earned his fourth win of the year throwing one scoreless inning. Connor Presnell was credited with the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven in 5.1 innings pitched.
GAME TWO: MHU 2, CAT 1
The Lions responded with a closely contested win in game three, holding off Catawba for the 2-1 win.
Tyler Lala opened and closed the scoring, collecting two RBI in the game. In the top of the fourth, Lala blasted a home run over the left field wall to put the Lions up 1-0 and recording their lone hit of the game.
After Catawba tied the game in the bottom of the fifth off of a Lions' error, Lala's sacrifice fly to center plated Trevor Bailey for the game-winning run.
AJ Chacon started the game for the Lions, throwing four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Tristan Camp came in to start the fifth, allowing one run on three hits in 1.1 innings pitched and earned his first win of the season. Spencer Nifong threw a clean 1.2 innings to pick up his first save of the year.
The Lions host Tusculum on Tuesday, April 12, kicking off a five-game home stand. First pitch at Henderson Field is set for 2 p.m.
