Marshall drops 30 on road versus Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-1, 1-1 SAC) was downed by Limestone (3-4, 3-4 SAC) by a score of 94-68 Tuesday afternoon on the road in South Atlantic Conference competition.
Mars Hill opened the contest on an 8-4 run that saw De'Ja Marshall record six points during that span, going two-for-two from beyond the arc. Limestone answered with 6:51 left in the frame as Lynadia Whiting's three-pointer was the catalyst for a Saints' 15-0 run, taking a 19-8 lead with less than a minute to play in the opening stanza.
The Lions cut the lead down to four, 19-15, with 1:41 played in the second quarter. The Saints once again boosted their lead to double-digits, going on an 11-2 run, leading 30-17 with 5:52 remaining in the half. The Saints bumped their lead up to as many as 23 in the frame before the Lions closed out the half with seven of the next nine points, trailing 42-25.
Marshall led the Lions with 11 points in the half followed by three apiece from Hannah Chandler and Drew McMillan. Reagan McCray had 12 points to lead all players.
The Saints hit five-of-nine three-pointers in the third, outscoring the Lions 31-17 with McCray and Reagan Kargo combining for three makes. Kargo led the charge for the Saints with 12 points, going four-for-four from the floor. Marshall led the Lions with seven points followed by McMillan's four.
Marshall capped off the afternoon for the Lions scoring 12 of their 26 fourth quarter points while collecting six rebounds. Alexis Pardue added six as the Lions outscored the Saints 26-21 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Kargo led the Saints with 22 points and five steals while McCray added 20 and seven assists. Limestone shot over 51 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 15-of-29.
Marshall, the reigning SAC Player of the Week, put out another outstanding performance, finishing the game with 30 points and setting a new career-high with 18 rebounds for the double-double. Chandler and Pardue each netted eight while Gabby Gianikos scored seven and added five assists.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, December 19 at home as they host Catawba. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
