Anderson, S.C.- The Anderson women's lacrosse team was handed their first loss (16-5) after an aggressive fight against the Lander Bearcats. A tough Lander defense kept Anderson to just five goals, shutting them out in two out of the four quarters. Both teams combined for 27 fouls on the night and 11 cards.
How it Happened
The Bearcats came out strong scoring in the first minute of the game. They later scored six more goals in the first period with three coming from free position shots. Hannah Thomas and Alicia Cannon each netted one goal for Anderson in the first quarter.
Action slowed in the second quarter with Lander scoring three goals and Anderson going 0-5 in shooting attempts. The Bearcats headed into halftime with a convincing 10-2 lead over the Trojans.
The black and gold started the third period strong with Jackie Tiongco scoring off a free position shot just under two minutes into the quarter. The Bearcats would answer with five more goals in the third quarter. Hannah Thomas and Gwen Ontiveros each contributed one goal for the Trojans before the horn.
The Trojans were shut out in the fourth quarter while keeping the Bearcats to just one goal with Ava Drath making 4 saves in goal for Anderson.
Inside the Box
Lander's Alyssa Suchan led all scorers with seven goals on the night. Anderson topped Lander 10-8 in ground balls and 8-7 in saves. Thomas led Anderson scorers with two goals while Ontiveros, Cannon, and Tiongco each contributed one goal for the Trojans.
