Holland homers twice in series finale against Coker
The Mars Hill baseball team (7-10, 7-9 SAC) dropped both games Sunday afternoon versus Coker (6-11, 5-7 SAC) by scores of 7-4 and 6-4, respectively.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (7-10, 7-9 SAC) dropped both games Sunday afternoon versus Coker (6-11, 5-7 SAC) by scores of 7-4 and 6-4, respectively.
GAME ONE: COKER 7, MHU 4
The Cobras used a six-run fifth inning to take game one.
Leading 1-0 after a first inning sacrifice fly by Drew Klaserner, Coker kicked off the fifth with a RBI double from Kristofer Blaco. Later in the inning with two runners on, Reilly Hall tripled to right field and advanced home off of a Mars Hill error to put the Cobras up 7-0.
Ruben Trillo's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth cut the deficit to five, scoring Austin Purser and Casey Mawhinney. In the bottom of the sixth, Tyler Lala blasted a solo home run over the center field fence and Forest Street.
Trillo added a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. He led all players with three RBI in the contest. Hall and Klaserner each drove in two for Coker.
Tanner Wofford picked up his first win of the season, striking out six in five innings of work.
GAME TWO: COKER 6, MHU 4
Hunter Holland smashed two solo home runs over the left field scoreboard in game two, however, the Lions ultimately fell by a score of 6-4.
The Lions trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth before Holland's pinch hit blast cut the lead down to two. In the bottom of the sixth, Trevor Bailey's RBI groundout saw the Cobras lead shrink to one.
Another three-run inning by the Cobras, highlighted by two RBI singles from Drew Klaserner and Reilly Hall saw the Cobras push the lead up to four.
In the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Jenkins plated Austin Purser with a sacrifice fly. Holland followed up with a deep shot to left field.
Klaserner went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Cobras while Holland went 2-for-3 and two RBI for the Lions.
Aaron Mitchell picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits in five innings. Sam Kaplan suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in five innings pitched.
The Lions take on Young Harris on the road Wednesday, March 17 in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
