JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-7, 4-4 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (7-4, 5-3 SAC) Wednesday night by a score of 86-67.
Carson-Newman shot over 57 percent in the first half, outscoring the Lions 40-32. EJ Bush led all players with 10 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Mars Hill shot just over 34 percent with Kadyn Dawkins' eight points leading the team. Both Michael Houge and Isayah Johnson each added seven points.
The Eagles continued to shoot well in the second, hitting nearly 55 percent of their shots. Tripp Davis netted 12 points in the half while Luke Brenegan collected five assists. Johnson led the Lions with nine points in the frame while Trey Belin added eight, hitting two of his four three-point attempts. Houge pulled down nine rebounds in the half.
Carson-Newman shot 56 percent from the floor to the Lions' 35 percent. Mars Hill hit 81 percent of their free throws to the Eagles' 61.
