Catawba Powers Past Barton With 5-1 Victory

SALISBURY, N.C. -- The No. 21 Catawba College women's soccer team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday night with a 5-1 win over Barton College at E.B. Frock Field. Hannah Dunn scored twice while Helen Summerell, Sharon Mayes, and Kasey Hahn each contributed goals. 

Catawba took over from the opening kick and did not wait long to get on the board. Sophomore attacker Hannah Dunn scored both of her goals in the first six minutes to give the Lady Indians the early 2-0 lead. Dunn applied offensive pressure all night as she totaled 6 total shots with five on goal. She also dished out the assist on Catawba's third goal by Helen Summerell which came within the first three minutes of the second half.

In the 57th minute, sophomore Kasey Hahn scored her first goal of the year on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box. This gave Catawba a commanding 4-1 lead. 

Sharon Mayes rounded out the offensive onslaught with her first goal of the year on a feed by Summerell. This brough the score to its final score, 5-1. 

Catawba rattled off a total of 23 shots to Barton's four. 

The ladies soccer team will be back on the pitch next Tuesday (August 30) in their first road game of the year at Shaw. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
