Tennis drops pair of matches at Newberry

Newberry, S.C. —- The Catawba College tennis teams fell in a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference tennis action. The Catawba women fell 5-2, dropping to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba men fell 4-3, dropping to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in league action.

The men won two of the three doubles matches, taking the doubles point. Paul Dekester and Tyler Juergens took #2 doubles 6-2, while Taketoshi Nanao and Sebastian Zabala clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.

Newberry claimed four of the six singles matches to take the overall match, however, as Zabala took #5 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Dekester clinched a win in #6 singles 6-2, 6-2.

The women won one doubles point, not being able to claim the doubles point. Miya Ami and Alexandra Parra continued their successful week together with a 6-2 win.

The women also won two of six singles matches against the Wolves, as Matilde Moretti won #3 singles 7-5, 6-4 and Sofia Hernandez claimed a victory in #6 singles 7-5, 6-4.

Both teams return home for action next week, hosting Montevallo for non-conference action on Thursday.
