Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team surrendered 15 of the final 17 runs in Tuesday afternoon's loss versus the University of Mount Olive at Newman Park. The Trojans improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Catawba Indians drop to 6-5.
Levi Perrell led Catawba offensively, driving in four runs including a three-run homerun in the second inning. Dylan Driver drove in Catawba's other run, while Logan Rogers recorded a pair of base hits. Jack Casbarro drove in five runs on three hits to lead UMO's offensive charge.
While Catawba jumped out to the early 3-0 lead, it was all Trojans from there, who hit five homers on the afternoon and scored four runs in three different half-innings. Chase Drinkard and Michael Gracer combined for 1.2 innings of shutout relief.
The Catawba Indians return to Newman Park this weekend, hosting Emory & Henry for a three-game set to open up South Atlantic Conference play. Game one on Friday is set for a 6 p.m. start.
