Shooting Woes Prove Costly in Trojans’ Loss at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Anderson men's basketball team wrapped up a three-game South Atlantic Conference road swing with an 80-57 setback at Carson-Newman, Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse.

Anderson (3-5, 1-5 SAC) shot a season-low 34.3 percent from the field in their fourth straight setback, while Carson-Newman improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the league with its fourth straight win.

Guard Quin Nottingham came off the bench to lead the Trojans in the scoring column with 17 points on 8-of-13 (61.5%) shooting. The Champaign, Ill., native also swiped a pair of steals. Freshman guard Myles Jenkins netted nine points, grabbed five rebounds and also swiped two steals. Forward Parker Dortch recorded eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots, while Jason Edwards led the Trojans with six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans got off to a slow start and were unable to recover after misfiring on their first four field goal attempts and turning the ball over four times in the opening five minutes of the contest, which enabled the Eagles to build a 9-2 lead before Dortch dropped in AU's first field goal with 14:39 left in the first half.

But Carson-Newman pushed out to a double-digit lead a little more than two minutes later and led by as many as 28 points late in the first half.

Jenkins' second 3-pointer of the game pulled the Trojans within 19 (66-47) with 6:15 left in the game, but the Trojans were unable to get any closer in the final minutes.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE DAY
The Trojans were 9-of-31 (29.0%) from the field in the opening half.
