Fine moves to 7-0 as Baseball picks up Friday night win over Anderson

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team bounced back on Friday night, defeating Anderson 8-3 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Newman Park. The Catawba Indians improve to 20-14 and 10-3 in the SAC, while the Trojans drop to 17-17 and 6-7 in league play.

Austin Fine improved to a perfect 7-0 with yet another quality start, allowing three runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Joseph Webb came in for the final three innings for his second save in as many appearances, striking out six.

Logan Rogers paced Catawba offensively with a 3-for-4 night with a double, two runs driven in and a run scored. JR Lingerfelt added a pair of RBI base hits and Carson Yates homered on the night.

Catawba got the bats going in the first inning once again, as Rogers doubled to right center to score two. The Catawba Indians added to the lead in the second inning when Yates belted a lead-off homer to left field to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

The Trojans tied the game with three runs across the third and fourth innings, as Brayden Owens' RBI single in the fourth tied the game at 3.

Catawba reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Lingerfelt hit a 3-2 two-out double to right field to score Harris Jackson. Anderson looked to tie the game in the fifth on a two-out double, but the tying run was cut down at home plate to preserve the lead.

Catawba added to their slim lead in the sixth inning on another Lingerfelt RBI base knock, scoring Rogers. The Catawba Indians added three runs of insurance in the eighth, but Webb would not need them, silencing the Trojan bats in the ninth.

The teams return to Newman Park on Saturday, wrapping up their three-game set with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
