Hanni posts double-double in penultimate contest

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (7-18, 3-14 SAC) was defeated by Limestone (14-14, 9-8 SAC) by a score of 66-51 Wednesday evening.
In the highest scoring quarter of the contest, the Saints carried a 21-18 lead into the second. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor with Naja Ngongba leading all players, going 4-for-4 from the floor, hitting both three-point attempts and netting 10 points. Destiny Jackson led the Saints with six points.
The Saints hit three three-pointers in the second en route to outscoring the Lions 15-12. Reagan McCray led the Saints with six points while Janette Hanni led the Lions with nine points. Maddie Gillie added three for Mars Hill.
The teams matched each other's production in the third, each scoring 15 points. Gillie led the Lions with seven points followed by four apiece from Hanni and Hannah Barr. Kalisha Hill scored six to lead the Saints.
Limestone pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 15-6 with Megan Watson's five points leading the way.
Hill led all players with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. McCray added 12 points while the duo of Jackson and Quin Byrd each collected eight rebounds apiece.
Hanni led the Lions with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Gillie ended the contest with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Ngongba chipped in 13 points.
Mars Hill closes out their 2022-23 season on Saturday, February 25 when they host Anderson on Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
