Softball splits twinbill with Lees-McRae

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College softball team split a Wednesday doubleheader against the Lees-McRae College at Whitley Field, taking game one 4-2 before falling 14-1 in game two. The Catawba Indians move to 8-6 on the year, while the Bobcats move to 8-4.

Kary Hales picked up the other RBI for Catawba.

Alex Baquie also posted a solid outing in the circle, starting the game and re-entering to close the game out. In all, Baquie pitched five innings, giving up one run on eight hits and struck out five. She earns her fifth win of the year in the effort.

Game two went much more favorably in the way of the Bobcats who used a six-run second innings and an eight-run fifth inning to close out game number two in five innings.

Catawba heads to Mount Olive on Sunday, playing a doubleheader with the Trojans starting at 1 p.m.
