Women's Soccer Shuts Out Barton 2-0

WILSON, N.C. -- Catawba extended its school record of shutout to eight straight after downing host Barton 2-0 in women's soccer action on Wednesday night at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex. The Catawba Indians, ranked 14th in NCAA II, improve to 11-0-1, while Barton falls to 5-5-1.

Catawba dominated the shot total 31-10 and went on top in the 16th minute. Helen Summerell lobbed over the keeper after a long ball from center by Jovana Sanchez. The Lady Indians doubled their advantage in the 61st minute when Katie Beck headed home a corner kick by Kasey Hahn.

That was enough support for the defense, which has recorded 744 consecutive scoreless minutes. Barton put just one shot on goal and it was saved by Sierra Davis. Davis notched her eighth shutout on the season. Barton got a dozen saves from Rachel Cox.

Catawba travels to Mars Hill on Saturday for a match with the Lions at 1 p.m.
