Cobras Take Down Lincoln Memorial for Saturday Night Conference Win

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men's lacrosse took down Lincoln Memorial for a Saturday night (Mar. 26) South Atlantic Conference win by a score of 14-7.

Henry Haskett opened the scoring with an unassisted marker two minutes in, before the Railsplitters tied things up four minutes later. Zyaire Marshall scored the last goal of the first quarter from a sharp angle with seven seconds left, as Coker took a 2-1 lead to the second.

LMU scored the first goal of the second, before a Coker run would stretch the lead to five part way through the second quarter. Haskett would score back-to-back unassisted goals 51 seconds apart, before Justin Beighey would score from Cal Gibson with nine minutes to play in the frame. Marshall would score unassisted a minute later, before Nathan Allan would win the ensuing faceoff and make a coast-to-coast run to score unassisted just 10 seconds later. Lincoln Memorial would get one goal back just 50 seconds later, before the final goal of the half came from Beighey off a Gibson assist with 31 seconds to play in the half. Coker took an 8-3 lead at the half.

Coker was able to hold LMU off the board in the third quarter, with Will Habel scoring the first goal of the quarter unassisted with nine and a half minutes to play. Habel would score his second of the game off an assist from Gibson on the man-up, before Corey Gales scored just 28 seconds later to put Coker ahead 11-3. Coker would take that lead to the fourth.

The Cobras would score the first three goals of the fourth quarter, starting with Beighey off a Gibson assist with under eight minutes to play. Caden Gore and Gibson would hook up on back-to-back sequences two and a half minutes apart, before LMU scored the final three goals of the game to bring the contest to its final score.

Beighey and Haskett each totaled hat tricks in the game, while Marshall, Gore and Habel each tallied two goals apiece. Allan and Gales also scored one goal each in the game. Gibson dished out all six of Coker's assists in the game. Coker out-worked LMU 30-13 on ground balls, led by a game-high 11 from Allan. 10 others collected ground balls in the game for Coker. Allan also totaled a game-high six caused turnovers in the contest, while seven others caused turnovers in the game. Ethan Hofert tallied six saves in the win between the pipes, while Lou Webb also appeared in relief.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 30) when they host Queens (N.C.) in South Atlantic Conference action. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Coker Athletic Field, video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
