Jenkins' grand slam pushes Lions past Brevard

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (10-10) defeated Brevard (6-5) by a score of 11-7 Sunday afternoon at Henderson Field.
The Lions found themselves trailing 6-5 entering the bottom of the eighth. Hunter Holland's RBI single plated Trey Putnam to tie the game while Trevor Bailey's RBI single to right field, scoring Kameron Reynolds, gave the Lions a one-run advantage.
With the bases loaded, Kyle Jenkins blasted a grand slam over the center field fence to bump the Lions' lead up to five.
Zach Allison cut into the Lions' lead in the top of the ninth with a RBI single, but it was not enough as the Lions held on to pick up their third win of the weekend, sweeping the series.
The Lions plated three in the first inning, highlighted by Bailey's RBI single, plating Jacob Legleiter. The Tornados tied the game at three in the second and took the 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth following Logan Clark's RBI triple.
In the bottom of the fourth, Cal Hubbard's sacrifice fly tied the game at four and in the bottom of the fifth, a wild pitch allowed Holland to score, going up 5-4.
A Lions' error in the top of the seventh allowed Beau Shealy to score, tying the game at five. A wild pitch in the eighth saw Clark score, putting Brevard ahead, 6-5.
Reynolds went 4-for-4 on the day for the Lions while Holland, Bailey, and Jenkins each recorded two hits. Jenkins led all players with four RBI. Clark led the Tornados offense with four hits and two RBI.
Andrew Hazell picked up the win, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing two runs, striking out two. Nathan Sanders was credited with the loss, allowing six runs on four hits in 3.2 innings pitched, striking out six.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when they take to the road to face Lenoir-Rhyne. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
