Joyce nets five versus Railsplitters

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-4, 0-3 SAC) was defeated 20-15 at home versus Lincoln Memorial (2-0, 2-0 SAC) Wednesday night.
The Railsplitters opened on a 4-0 run in the first 5:17 of the contest. Ali Van Der Ziel netted two during that run. Sydney Joyce stopped the run with a free position goal, her first of five tallies on the night.
Leading 5-2, Lincoln Memorial went on another 3-0 run to balloon the lead up to six. With 14:16 remaining in the half, the Lions began a 4-1 run as Joyce netted another two. Alexa Tazzetta and Samantha Newton recorded the other markers.
The Railsplitters closed out the half on a 3-1 run to build their lead back up to 13-8.
The teams matched each other's output in the second half, netting seven goals. Abigail Francis and Kelly Csenar opened the scoring for the Railsplitters, but the Lions answered with a 4-1 run. Kiersten Foust netted two goals during the run.
Lincoln Memorial closed out on a 4-3 run with Van Der Ziel picking up a goal and an assist.
Van Der Ziel led all players with 10 points (6g, 4a) while her sister, Avery, picked up two goals and one assist. Csenar and Erin DePaul each recorded four points (3g, 1a).
Joyce led the Lions with seven points (5g, 2a) followed by Foust, Newton, and Tazzetta's three goals apiece.
The Lions wrap up their six-game homestand on Saturday, March 13 when they host Queens on Senior Day. Draw is set for 4 p.m.
