Trojans Could Not Overcome Slow Start in Home Loss Against Catawba; 64-47

Anderson, S.C.- The Anderson University women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start dropping its fourth straight South Atlantic Conference contest falling to Catawba, 64-47, on Saturday evening at the Abney Athletic Center. The Trojans fall to 11-10 overall and 10-9 in SAC play, while the Indians improve to 8-2 overall and 8-2 in conference action.

"Tough loss," stated head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "Especially hate to lose on Senior Night, but what I can say is we are still finding our way and showed a fight in us late that we needed to see. That is going to give us the push that we have to have, as we approach the conference tournament."

KEY STATS

- Anderson shot 32.7 (17-52) percent from the field, while Catawba shot 35.3 percent (24-68).
- The Indians outrebounded the Trojans, 43-41.
- Catawba shot 38.5% (10-of-26) from behind the arc, with AU shooting 25 percent (2-of-8).
- The Black and Gold recorded nine blocked shots.

KEY TROJANS

- Britney Bailey scored a team-high 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded three blocked shots.
Kaitlin Bailey netted eight points and four rebounds.
- Alexis Tate contributed six points and chased down six rebounds.
- Nelliah Wilson chipped in six points, pulled down three rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist.

NOTES

- The 47 points scored by Anderson was the lowest point total of the season.

First Quarter

-Catawba outscored the Trojans 19-9.
-AU did not score it first point of the game until 2:07 mark on a layup by Wilson.
-The Trojans ended the final 2 minutes on a 9-2 run.

 Second Quarter

- The Indians began the second quarter of action with a 5-0 run, 24-9.
- Another Wilson layup stopped the run.
- Catawba outscored the Black and Gold, 20-13.

Third Quarter

-Catawba built its largest lead in the third period, 23 points.

 Fourth Quarter

-Anderson outscored the Indians, 14-10
- A Bailey free-throw cut the lead to 12 points with 5 minutes to play.
- A quick 5-0 spurt pushed the Indians lead back to 17 which proved to be too large of a deficit to overcome.

-Anderson will host SAC opponent Queens on Monday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
