Mars Hill sweeps Brevard on road

BREVARD, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (9-10) swept Brevard (6-4) Saturday afternoon in non-conference play by scores of 12-2 and 8-4, respectively.
GAME ONE: MHU 12, BC 2
The Mars Hill bats came alive in game one versus the Tornadoes to secure the win.
Entering the fourth inning up 3-0, Hunter Holland hit his third home run in his last two games. In the top of the sixth, Jordan Lathe picked up his third RBI of the contest with a two-run single to left field.
Brevard cut the lead down to four in the bottom of the sixth, but a six-run seventh inning by the Lions ended the contest in seven innings. Trevor Bailey and Adam Plouffe recorded RBI singles while Zach Weaver plated two with a two-run double to put the Lions up by 10.
Lathe led all players with three RBI. Bailey, Plouffe, and Tyler Lala led the Lions with two hits apiece while Holland led all players, scoring three runs.
AJ Chacon picked up the win, striking out eight while allowing two runs on two hits in six innings pitched.
GAME TWO: MHU 8, BC 4
The Lions pulled away late, scoring three unanswered runs to secure the Saturday sweep of Brevard.
Leading 5-4 entering the top of the eighth, a solo home run from Kyle Jenkins rebuilt the lead to two. Easton Rhoney chipped in with a RBI single to plate Adam Plouffe later in the frame. A Brevard error in the top of the ninth gave the Lions another insurance run.
Mars Hill opened the scoring in the top of the second, plating four. Hunter Holland's RBI single kicked off the scoring, followed by two bases loaded walks that plated Jenkins and Plouffe, respectively.
In the bottom of the second, JJ Wilkes' two-run single up the middle cut the Lions lead down to one following a sacrifice fly from Noah Harris.
Plouffe put the Lions back up by two in the top of the third with a RBI single to right field, plating Zach Weaver. Zach Allison's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth narrowed the lead back down to one.
Plouffe, Jenkins, and Weaver each recorded two hits and scored two runs in game two. Wilkes led all players with three hits.
Spencer Nifong picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings pitched. Connor Presnell struck out five in five innings of work.
The Lions close out the weekend series versus the Tornadoes on Sunday, March 21 at Henderson Field. The single, nine-inning game is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
