Tennis sweeps UVA Wise; Women move to 4-0 in SAC

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College tennis teams rolled to South Atlantic Conference wins over UVA Wise on Saturday, as the women won 7-0 and the men won 6-1. The women improve to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the SAC, while the men improve to 3-6 on the year and 2-2 in league action.

The women started off sweeping all three doubles matches as Miya Ami and Alexandra Parra won 6-1, Carolina Correia and Sofia Hernandez remained undefeated on the season in doubles with a 6-1 win and Nika Dundovic and Tina Gomes finished the sweep with a 6-4 victory.

Catawba took all six single matches as well, as Ami claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win, Matilde Moretti took the #2 singles match 6-2, 6-3, Parra held serve with an 8-0 win, Correia claimed Catawba's second 6-0, 6-0 win, Vaishnavi Venkatesh took the #5 singles match 8-1 and Hernandez finished off the six-for-six with a 6-1 6-1 victory.

The men won two of three doubles matches to earn the point, as Marcos Castares and Ryan Little started it off with a 6-2 win and Sebastian Zabala and Taketoshi Nanao claimed the point with a 6-3 win.

The men won five of six singles to earn the 6-1 win as a team. Tyler Juergens pulled off a three-set win 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, Little won #3 singles 8-5, Paul Dekester clinched the team win with a 6-2, 7-5 win, Zabala took #5 singles with an 8-6 win and Nanao wrapped it up with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

The men's tennis team hosts Averett on Tuesday, while both teams continue SAC play on Wednesday of next week, traveling to Wingate.
