MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-1-1, 2-1 SAC) blanked Lincoln Memorial (1-1, 1-1 SAC), 3-0, Thursday night inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
The Lions struck in the 22nd minute as Sebastian Bertilsson buried his third of the season. Taking a Thomas Bertelsen pass in the middle of the box, Bertilsson's right foot redirected the ball past Robin Hermann.
Mars Hill nearly doubled their lead in the 33rd minute as Rasmus Nielsen just missed a header inside the far post. The Lions had another great opportunity moments later as Noah Graden's shot from just outside the box rang off the left post.
The Lions defense, led by Nielsen and Jeppe Christensen, held Lincoln Memorial shotless in the first half.
The tandem of Bertelsen and Bertilsson connected two more times in the second half. Bertelsen netted his first as a Lion in the 50th minute, taking a one-touch pass from Bertilsson and sliding it past Hartmann with his left foot.
Bertilsson tallied his second goal of the game and fourth of the year just six minutes later. Bertelsen stole the ball along the goal line and fed it into the box for the Swede to bury past the Railsplitters' netminder.
Bertilsson posted two goals and one assist while Bertelsen potted one goal and two assists. Brennan Whalen made two saves for the shutout win.
The Lions return to the pitch on Saturday, March 20 when they host Tusculum. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
