Baseball erases 5-0 deficit, falls in 11 innings at #21 UNC Pembroke

Pembroke, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team scored seven unanswered runs to erase a five-run deficit, but fell in the 11th inning on the road at 21st-ranked UNC Pembroke on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference in-region action.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Both teams recorded 14 hits

- The Catawba Indians recorded six of nine extra-base hits

- Catawba recorded all three errors in the contest

- UNCP had both stolen bases in the game

- Catawba's pitchers allowed eight earned runs on 14 hits and five walks, striking out 10; Pembroke's staff allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits and two walks, striking out eight

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Logan Rogers was 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored

- Cole Hales went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored

- Jackson Finger hit a two-run homer

- Levi Perrell and Sam Hunter also recorded multiple hits

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST INNING

- Pembroke put up a four-spot in the bottom of the first inning

 

SECOND INNING

- The Braves' second homer of the game extended their early lead to 5-0

 

FOURTH INNING

- Hales drove in Dylan Driver on a sac fly to get Catawba on the board in the fourth

 

SIXTH INNING

- UNCP returned their lead to five on an RBI single in the sixth

 

SEVENTH INNING

- Rogers doubled to lead off the seventh and Finger homered two batters later to trim the deficit to 6-3

 

EIGHTH INNING

- Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Catawba Indians with nobody out

- Drew Robertson's RBI groundout brought Catawba within two

- Rogers tied the game with a double to center field

- Parker Styborski hit a pinch-hit RBI single to pull Catawba ahead

- Perrell tripled to add an insurance run

- The Braves got a run back in the bottom half on a passed ball

 

NINTH INNING

- With the bases loaded and one out, Pembroke tied the game with a sac fly

- Catawba forced a groundout with the game-winning run 90 feet away to send the game to extras

 

TENTH INNING

- Rogers hit a solo homer to lead off the tenth

- UNCP recorded a two-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch

- The Braves tied the game again with a two-out RBI single to extend the game

 

ELEVENTH INNING

- UNCP hit a two-out walkoff single in the eleventh to earn the late victory
