Volleyball Notches Fourth Straight Win

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Catawba ran off its fourth straight win, all in three sets, following another South Atlantic Conference volleyball victory on Friday night at the DeLoach Center. The 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 win improves the Catawba Indians to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 1-9 and 0-5.

Kylie Morgan tallied 11 kills to pace Catawba. She added 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Allison Bryant collected nine kills and 10 digs, while Ashley Johnson had seven kills, two aces and two blocks. Setter Payton Medich had 22 assists with libero Morgan Childress notching 10 digs.

Leading late in the opening set, a kill from Bryant and an ace by Medich put Catawba up 23-18. Jordan Gore added a block following a time out and the Lady Indians got the final point on a Coker error.

Catawba trailed 12-9 in set two, but Morgan had four kills and an ace in a run that gave the Lady Indians an 18-13 edge. Coker got within four several times, but a Morgan kill and a Childress ace closed the set.

The third set was tied nine times before a late 4-0 Catawba run. Even at 20-20, Bryant had a kill that was followed by a Coker error. Bryant had another kill after a timeout then Kary Hales brought Catawba to match point with an ace. Coker scored the next two points on Catawba errors before a serve error by the Cobras ended it.

Taylor Parker led Coker with nine kills, nine digs and a block. Chelsey Blume recorded four blocks.

Catawba will host Wingate in league action on Saturday at 7 p.m.
