Beland, Lions blow past LMU at home

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (3-4, 1-3 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial (0-3, 0-3 SAC) by a score of 19-11 inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium Wednesday night.
The Lions dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Railsplitters 6-1. Brandon Beland netted two goals and collected one assist in the frame. Zac Carrigan scored one and added two assists.
The second frame was evenly played with both teams posting three goals. Chapman Parker scored two goals for Lincoln Memorial while the Lions had goals from Braden Hoskyn, Trevor Kennedy, and Jackson Courson. Beland added an assist on Courson's tally with 5:17 remaining in the half.
Mars Hill, similarly to the first quarter, dictated play in the third, outscoring the Railsplitters 5-2. Carrigan matched his first quarter output with one goal and two assists while Beland collected two points (1g, 1a).
The teams combined for 10 goals in the final stanza. Beland scored three times while Carrigan and Justin Lundy netted the other tallies for the Lions.
Kevin Jendrasik led the Railsplitters with four points (2g, 2a) while Parker ended the night with a hat-trick (3g).
Beland led all players with nine points (6g, 3a) followed by Carrigan's seven (3g, 4a). Kennedy struck three times for the hat-trick.
Steven Smith made nine saves in the winning effort.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, March 13 when they host Queens. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
