Trojans Hold UVA Wise to Season Low Scoring Output to Advance to the SAC Flying J Championship Semifinals; 65-49

Wise, Va. — The fifth-seeded Anderson University women's basketball team held the fourth-seeded Highland Cavaliers to its lowest scoring output of the season, 65-49, to advance to the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Flying J Championship on Monday evening at the Prior Center. The Trojans improve to 14-10 overall, while UVA Wise finish the season 15-5 overall.

"Wow! So proud of this team," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "And I mean TEAM. It took everyone to buy in to team defense and they did just that."

"Offensively we stayed patient and worked for good shots," added Barbaree. "We have to enjoy it on this bus ride then regroup and do it all over again."

KEY STATS

- Anderson outrebound the Cavaliers, 44-31.
- Anderson shot 43.9 (25-57) percent from the field, while the Trojans held UVA Wise to 29.1 percent (15-55).
- The Trojans made 5-of-12 (41.7%) from behind the arc, while UVA Wise made just 3-of-15 (20%).
- The Black and Gold held UVA Wise to just four points in the second quarter.
- The Trojans recorded 9 blocked shots.

KEY TROJANS

- Samantha Michel scored a team high 12 points and three rebounds.

Taylor Hair netted 11 points, while pulling down eight rebounds and blocking two shots.

- J'Mya Cutter dropped in 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked two shots.

- Britney Bailey ripped down 16 rebounds, nine points and five blocked shots.

- Ashley Berry scored six points after draining 2-of-4 three-point baskets and dished out three assists.

- Maggie Campbell scored six points after hitting 2-for-2 three-point baskets in five minutes of play.

NOTES

 Anderson's bench outscored UVA Wise's bench, 33-4.

 FIRST QUARTER

- Anderson outscored UVA Wise 19-17 in the first quarter.
-AU lead by as many as eight after a Samantha Michel jumper with 3:48 to go.

SECOND QUARTER

- The Black and Gold outscored the Cavaliers, 14-4.
-Anderson Berry drained a three-point basket with 3:41 to put the Trojans up by 14.

 THIRD QUARTER

- AU Campbell hit a three-point basket with 3:11 to play in the third to put Anderson up by 19.
-UVA Wise cut the lead to 11 with 1:27 to play, before AU pushed the lead back to 14 on a buzzer beater layup by Hair.

 FOURTH QUARTER

-The Trojans enjoyed their largest lead of the game, 22 points, on a jumper by Jalyn Spurlin with 7:37 to play.
-Anderson held UVA Wise scoreless over the final 3:10 of the contest.

-Anderson will host the eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for TBA.
