Hanni records third straight 20-point game in road contest versus Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (7-15, 3-11 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (8-16, 4-10 SAC) by a score of 85-52.
Newberry entered the second quarter up 16-10 before opening the game up, outscoring the Lions 27-7. The Wolves hit nearly 60 percent of their shots and drained 5-of-8 three-point attempts. Payton Cronen and Dyani Burke led the team with eight points apiece.
Mars Hill topped the Wolves in the third, 19-17, with Naja Ngongba scoring 11 of the team's 19 points. She also pulled down five rebounds in the frame. Maddie Gillie and Janette Hanni each posted four points apiece. Cronen led Newberry with nine points in the third.
Giulia Bongiorno led all players in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 of Newberry's 25 points. Holly Davies scored seven in the stanza. Hanni led Mars Hill with nine points in the frame followed by three from Hannah Barr.
Cronen led the Wolves with 20 points while Bongiorno ended the afternoon with 16. Ericka Wiseley led all players with 17 rebounds.
Hanni led the Lions with 20 points, her third straight game with 20 or more points. Ngongba picked up her fifth double-double of the season, netting 12 and pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to the court on Wednesday, February 18 when they host Catawba. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
