Trojans Wrap up Nonconference Home Slate with Loss to Emmanuel

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team wrapped up the nonconference portion of its home schedule with a 10-2 setback to Emmanuel, Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 11-17 with the setback, while Emmanuel (13-19) snapped a four-game skid with the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior Cody Adams posted two of the Trojans' 10 hits on the afternoon, with a double and a single in four trips to the plate. Freshman Brayden Owens was 1-for-3, with a single and a walk, with Will Lindsey going 1-for-2, with a single and a pair of walks.

Senior Justin Helms (0-1) took the loss after getting the start and allowing four runs on five hits without retiring a batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions got off to a fast start with four runs in the top of the first inning and built a 5-0 lead with another run in the second, before the Trojans took advantage of three straight singles by freshman Tanner Bray, Owens and sophomore Ryan Brash to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning.

After two scoreless innings, the Trojans added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Nick Vella was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Lions made it 6-2 with another solo run in the sixth and pit the game out of reach by scoring six runs in the top of the ninth.

NOTABLES
• The Lions hold a 14-10 edge in the overall series and have won five straight.
• The two teams combined to use 44 players on the day, with 17 pitchers seeing action on the mound.

UP NEXT
The Trojans welcome Wingate to Memorial Stadium for a four-game South Atlantic Conference series. First-pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m., with Sunday's twin bill also set for a 1 p.m. start.
