Men's Soccer Blanks Barton 4-0

SALISBURY, N.C. -- After a scoreless first half, Catawba put in four second-half goals to nab a 4-0 victory over visiting Barton in men's soccer action on Sunday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Catawba Indians move to 2-0, while the Bulldogs fall in their opener.

Catawba broke the ice in the 72nd minute. Simone Trentin delivered a free kick into the box that Alejo Bzurovski headed home to give the hosts the edge. That goal opened a flood gate that was the Indians added three more goals over the next 15 minutes.

Catawba got a second goal when Joseph Allerton slotted a ball across the box to Nico Morillo. The pass put Morillo alone with the keeper and he put home the shot in the 79th minute.

The Indians iced the game in the final five minutes with a pair of goals less than a minute apart. Allerton assisted on a goal by Andrew Twamley, then Gage Bernard grabbed a loose ball and scored for the final tally of the night.

Catawba held a 14-5 edge in shots. Gianluca Tommasi recorded a pair of saves and earned the shutout. Jacob Randolph made six stops for Barton.

Catawba travels to USC Aiken on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff with the Pacers.
