Baseball wins Sunday, takes road series over LMU

Harrogate, Tenn. —- The Catawba College baseball team bounced back Sunday, winning 6-4 over Lincoln Memorial to take game three and the series in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Catawba improves to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters drop to 11-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Catawba got another quality start out of Mason Gwyn, who tossed 6.1 innings of shutout baseball, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out four batters. He earns the win on the mound, moving to a perfect 3-0 on the season. Robbie Cowie earned the four-out save for his first of the season.

The offense got two-hit games from Jackson Finger and Zeb Burns, while Drew Robertson scored two runs and Levi Perrell and Logan Rogers delivered an RBI triple and double, respectively.

Perrell got the scoring going in the top of the second, tripling to score Rogers, then later scored in the inning on an error to give Catawba an early 2-0 lead.

Robertson scored again on an RBI infield single by Dylan Driver. Finger drove in Driver later in the eighth, then was driven in himself by Rogers' two-out double to give Catawba a 5-0 advantage.

LMU got two back in the eighth, but Cameron Mills' sac fly to score Robertson proved to be enough as insurance, as Cowie allowed two runs in the ninth, but held on for the save.

The team heads to Lenoir-Rhyne for non-conference action on Tuesday, looking to even the season series with the Bears. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
